Sergio’s Cake Shop is more than a business—it’s the legacy of love, resilience, and sweet dreams passed down through generations. Founded by our parents, Sergio and Vicky, this family business was built from humble beginnings, carried by passion and shaped by the deep values of family, tradition, and community.
Our father, Sergio, was born in Famagusta, Cyprus, where his love for baking began at just 12 years old. What started as a boy’s fascination with cakes quickly turned into a lifelong calling. He honed his skills in some of the most renowned cake shops across Cyprus, gaining not only experience but a reputation for excellence. His journey also took him through three years of military service, where he was proudly appointed head chef—a role that brought him immense joy and further refined his culinary artistry.
Our mother, Vicky, was born in the nearby town of Vatili. After the devastating Cypriot war in 1974, her family was forced to seek refuge in Australia, where they settled in 1976. Despite the hardship, Vicky grew up with strength, grace, and an unshakable spirit—qualities that would later become pillars of our family and business.
In 1980, fate brought Sergio and Vicky together in a story that sounds like it came straight out of a fairytale. Sergio was working in a cake shop in Larnaca, Cyprus, and among his regulars was Vicky’s grandfather. So impressed by Sergio’s hard work and kind nature, he believed the two would make a perfect match. That same year, Vicky flew to Cyprus, and they were married in May. Together, they returned to Australia to begin their life—and their dreams—together.
Sergio and Vicky bought their first cake shop in Newtown that same very year. In1982, they welcomed their first son, Peter, followed by Kyriako in 1986. For 16 years, they poured their hearts into the business, creating a name for themselves with their craftsmanship, dedication, and warmth that customers came to know and love. After selling the Newtown shop, their family grew again with the birth of their daughter Christina in 1997.
But the story didn’t end there—it was just the beginning.
In 2003, Sergio’s Cake Shop officially opened its doors in Chullora. It was the start of a new chapter built on decades of experience, love, and an unbreakable bond between two people who had dedicated their lives to their craft and community. The name Sergio’s represents not just a man or a brand, but a family’s history and a commitment to excellence.
Since then, the Sergio’s family has grown. With locations now in Bankstown, Carlingford, Top Ryde, Macarthur, and Mt Druitt, we proudly serve customers across Sydney with the same passion and care that began all those years ago.
